Unethical Dogma was formed in 2021 and, within a few months, defined its main influences and solidified its current lineup after various changes in non-founding members. This lineup has contributed to giving the group a clear stylistic direction. Since then, Unethical Dogma has developed a recognizable and ever-evolving musical identity. The band's live activity began in September 2023, featuring their first EP, DUSK, which was released in early 2024, along with BLOOD, their debut single.
Unethical Dogma defines itself as a prog/djent band, heavily influenced by technical and complex metal. The group creates a distinctive sonic fusion, characterized by driving riffs, polyrhythms, and heavy breakdowns. However, to further set themselves apart, they incorporate elements that generate dark and melodic atmospheres, including virtuosic solos, clean parts, and ambient sections enriched by pianos, synths, and choirs. This all evokes a sinister and occasionally melancholic horror vein.
The band's image is further distinguished by an elegant look that deviates from the typical metal aesthetic, giving the group a unique and different visual identity.
The band's first single, BLOOD, produced by Sphynx Studios in Brighton, represents the epilogue of a story that narrates the descent into madness of a man who is a victim of his own mental illness. The second single, TEARS, was released on January 26, 2024, followed by SMILES on December 8, 2023. Both are from the band's first EP, DUSK, which was released in early 2024. DUSK is a concept EP based on an original story, with each track representing a key moment in the protagonist's mental degeneration.
DAWN, an EP intrinsically connected to its predecessor in both narrative and musical structure, follows DUSK, completing the concept and the story. The protagonist's mental degeneration is reflected in the progressive shift in sound between the two EPs: DAWN stands out for its more violent and less melodic sound compared to DUSK, highlighting the loss of harmony and the intensification of madness.
